Designing for a movement is different, especially if its going to successfully reach lots of different kinds of people. Especially if you’re hoping those people have passion and ownership about your movement.
My experience designing for Burning Man has been a valuable lesson in letting go of what I create for that community. That lesson was elevated to crazy levels of pride and joy with my Women’s Wave graphics for the Women’s March. Supporters used and modified the graphics for their own communities, regions, social networks, posters.
For an introverted, cause-committed designer its amazing to watch from the comfort of the studio the work grow, change and connect people.
